Agartala, February 22: Tripura University will honour 283 meritorious students and confer PhD degrees on 149 research scholars at its 14th Convocation scheduled to be held on March 8.
A total of 145 toppers from 2024 and 138 from 2025 in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will receive gold medals and honours during the ceremony. The university will also award 149 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees at the convocation.
The event assumes significance as the convocation had not been held for the past two years, leading to delays in the issuance of original certificates. In several instances, provisional certificates were not accepted during job appointments, causing inconvenience to students, particularly research scholars. The announcement of the convocation has brought relief to students and researchers, including those from outside the state.
Questions had been raised regarding the organisation of the convocation in the absence of a regular Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. However, the ceremony is being conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Tripura University Act, 2006, under Ordinance B-8 and relevant statutes. The Executive Council approved the decision to hold the convocation.
The Chancellor of the university, Ahmed Javed, has granted permission for the event. Even if a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed before March 8, the convocation will proceed as scheduled.
