Agartala: Mar 18. Tripura’s secondary education system is facing a serious teacher shortage, with more than 4,300 posts lying vacant, the government informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a question by MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, the Secondary Education Department said 2,176 Graduate Teacher posts (Class IX–X) and 2,050 Post Graduate Teacher posts (Class XI–XII) are currently vacant. Additionally, 112 Special Educator posts remain unfilled, though 57 candidates have already received appointment offers.
Despite the scale of vacancies, no teacher recruitment was conducted in the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25.
The government has now initiated steps to address the shortage by sending requisitions for 1,733 posts to the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT). These include 700 Graduate Teachers, 915 Post Graduate Teachers, and 118 PGT (Computer Science) posts. Selection tests are expected soon.
Meanwhile, 57 Special Educators and 106 Physical Education Teachers have received appointment offers in 2025–26, but their postings are still pending.
The government has not provided any clear timeline for filling all vacancies.
