Samajpatis (community leaders) have submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission, Government of Tripura, seeking rescheduling of the TTAADC General Election polling date currently fixed for April 13, 2026.
In their appeal, they stated that the polling day coincides with a major traditional festival of the Tiprasa community, observed with deep cultural significance across TTAADC areas.
They pointed out that the festival involves essential rituals, social gatherings, and community participation over multiple days, making it difficult for many people to cast their votes on that day.
The memorandum further noted that the overlap between the election schedule and the festival may impact voter turnout and cause inconvenience to the tribal population.
The leaders emphasized that such scheduling forces people to choose between their cultural obligations and democratic rights.
Citing these concerns, the Samajpatis urged the Election Commission to reconsider and reschedule the polling date to ensure wider participation while respecting the cultural sentiments of indigenous communities.
The appeal has been jointly signed by several community leaders from different parts of Tripura.
