Agartala: Jan 15. North Tripura officially rolled out the “No Helmet, No Fuel” policy on Thursday, making helmets mandatory not just on roads but also at petrol pumps. From today, two-wheeler riders without helmets will be denied fuel, even if they carry valid vehicle documents. The move aims to curb rising road accidents and push the district towards a zero-fatality road safety goal.
To ensure strict implementation, North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai and District Magistrate & Collector Chandni Chandran led a special enforcement drive, visiting four petrol pumps across the district. During the inspections, pump authorities were clearly instructed to refuse fuel to riders not wearing helmets. Officials confirmed that fines were imposed on rule violators.
Authorities clarified that enforcement will not be limited to police checks alone. Petrol pump operators have been made active stakeholders in the drive, strengthening compliance at the ground level.
Appealing to the public through the media, the SP and DM urged citizens to act responsibly and make road safety a collective mission. They called on riders to adopt safe practices so that road accidents can decline and the vision of “zero deaths on roads” becomes a reality.
