Agartala: Jan 14. In a move aimed at strengthening the rural economy and promoting self-reliance in tribal areas, cattle were distributed among 36 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana - Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC) scheme in Santirbazar sub-division.
The cattle distribution programme was organised by the Bakafa Agriculture Department at Pratiprasad Para of Madhya Kathalia ADC Village under Bakafa block. An amount of approximately Rs 14.66 lakh was spent on the initiative, which is part of the final year of the PMKSY-WDC project in Kathalia and Madhya Kathalia areas.
Officials said the scheme aims to enhance income opportunities for rural households by supporting livestock-based livelihoods, thereby improving long-term economic stability.
The programme was implemented through the joint efforts of the Bakafa Agriculture Department and former Village Chairman Jitendra Reang, ensuring effective outreach to eligible beneficiaries.
Among those present at the event were Bakafa Block Development Committee member Debashish Bhowmik, social worker Mambu Mog, former Village Chairman Jitendra Reang, and Agriculture Department supervisor Rajib Sen, along with other dignitaries.
Speakers highlighted the importance of government welfare schemes and ongoing developmental initiatives by both the central and state governments.
Beneficiaries expressed happiness over receiving government assistance, stating that the support would help them move towards financial self-sufficiency.
