Agartala, February 11: The Tripura unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has announced its participation in the nationwide general strike scheduled for February 12, 2026. The strike, called by the Joint Forum of Central Trade Unions and Independent Sectoral Federations, is aimed at protesting the Centre’s alleged anti-worker, anti-farmer and pro-corporate policies.
According to INTUC leaders, workers from government departments, public sector undertakings, tea gardens, construction, transport and the unorganised sector across Tripura are expected to join the agitation. Farmers, agricultural labourers, MGNREGS workers, youth and students have also pledged support, with the United Kisan Morcha expressing solidarity.
The Joint Forum has opposed the implementation of the four Labour Codes, claiming they weaken trade unions, restrict the right to strike and dilute social security safeguards. The organisations have also raised concerns over rising unemployment, growing contractual appointments and unfilled vacancies in government sectors.
Among key demands are the repeal of the Labour Codes, withdrawal of certain proposed bills, strengthening of MGNREGA, regularisation of frontline scheme workers and immediate filling of vacancies in state and central government departments.
INTUC has called upon all sections of society in Tripura to ensure the success of the February 12 strike.
