Agartala, February 11: Candidates in Tripura are facing uncertainty after the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) scheduled the Sub-Inspector (Excise) examination on the same day as the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Security Assistant/Executive (SA/Exe) Tier-II examination. The overlapping dates have triggered concern among aspirants who had applied for both competitive posts.
The TPSC Sub-Inspector (Excise) examination is conducted by the Tripura Public Service Commission, a constitutional body responsible for state-level recruitment. In contrast, the IB Security Assistant/Executive Tier-II examination is conducted under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, as part of the central recruitment process for Intelligence Bureau personnel.
Several candidates said they had been preparing for months with the intention of appearing in both examinations, as the posts fall under different services—one in the state excise department and the other in a central intelligence agency. However, the simultaneous scheduling has left them with no option but to choose one over the other.
Aspirants expressed hope that one of the authorities might consider rescheduling the examination date to avoid inconvenience. However, officials indicated that the possibility of postponement appears limited at this stage, given that the examinations are being conducted by two separate recruiting bodies—one at the state level and the other at the national level—with pre-determined timelines and logistical arrangements.
Education observers noted that clashes between major competitive examinations can significantly impact candidates, particularly in smaller states like Tripura, where government job opportunities are highly sought after.
As of now, no official notification regarding a change in schedule has been issued by either TPSC or the Intelligence Bureau. Candidates are advised to regularly check the respective official websites for updates.
With both examinations carrying significant career prospects, aspirants are now compelled to make a strategic decision about which opportunity to pursue.
