Khowai, Feb 21: A seven-month pregnant woman and a 60-year-old woman were injured following an alleged late-night operation by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Chamabasti under Asharam Bari constituency in Khowai district, leading to tension in the area.
According to family members, 10–15 BSF personnel allegedly arrived at the house on Thursday night and fired several rounds in the air before entering the premises.
The pregnant woman was reportedly pushed to the ground, suffering injuries to her abdomen, while her mother-in-law was allegedly struck on the head with a torchlight when she came out of the house after hearing gunshots. Both injured women were immediately taken to Khowai District Hospital for treatment.
Family members further alleged that BSF personnel broke open two doors and entered the house without any woman constable present.
A young woman was allegedly dragged from her bed and thrown to the floor. Earlier in the day, a local resident identified as Sushankar Deb was allegedly detained and assaulted by BSF personnel over an unspecified complaint and later sought medical treatment at the district hospital. The family claims the night-time action followed that incident.
Residents of Chamabasti have demanded a fair and impartial investigation, stating that while security forces are mandated to prevent illegal cross-border activities, action against an individual should not result in alleged harm to women and other family members.
No official statement had been issued by BSF authorities at the time of filing this report. The situation in the area remains tense as villagers await clarification and further action from the authorities.
