Bishramganj, Feb 10: A strong protest has been raised against the formation of the Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat, with Tipra Motha, the Indigenous Land Protect Committee (ILPC), and various civil society organisations jointly opposing the move.
At a crucial meeting held at the Pramodnagar Community Hall, speakers unanimously objected to declaring Bishramganj as a Nagar Panchayat, arguing that including ADC villages under such a municipal body is legally invalid. The participants questioned how the State Government proceeded with the declaration despite repeated objections raised earlier.
Serious allegations were also made regarding administrative lapses. Although demarcation and joining-related work was scheduled for February 6, the concerned authorities reportedly failed to carry out their duties. It was specifically alleged that SDM Binki Saha could not present an area-wise map during the process.
Following the meeting, it was decided that a deputation will be submitted on February 20 to the Sepahijala District Magistrate, Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal. Additionally, the Indigenous Land Protect Committee announced its decision to file a legal case challenging the formation of the Nagar Panchayat.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Subodh Debbarma and Biswajit Kalai, MDC Umashankar Debbarma, ILPC Chairman Biching Debbarma, Convenor Suran Debbarma, civil society representative Braj Debbarma, along with other leaders and local residents.
