Headlines Tripura Editor filed complaint against MLA Ranjit Debbarma and The Social Bangla Facebook channels over alleged defamation.
Agartala, Feb 16. Pranab Sarkar, Editor of Headlines Tripura National, has filed a formal complaint at the West Agartala Police Station against MLA Ranjit Debbarma and a Facebook page titled The Social Bangla, alleging criminal intimidation and defamation.
According to the complaint, the allegations stem from a recently telecast interview conducted and broadcast by the Facebook page featuring the MLA. Sarkar claimed that during the interview, Debbarma made several provocative and defamatory remarks targeting him and Ajker Fariad Editor Sanjit Debroy.
The complainant alleged that the MLA used derogatory language and made indirect references, including mention of “black sunglasses,” which he claimed were intended to identify and intimidate them before the public. Sarkar stated that such remarks were baseless and aimed at maligning their reputation.
The complaint further alleged that the telecast of the interview amplified the impact of the statements, resulting in mental harassment and reputational damage. Sarkar has urged the police to initiate action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to criminal intimidation, defamation and intentional insult, along with applicable sections of the Information Technology Act concerning the publication and transmission of unlawful content through social media platforms.
He has also requested appropriate legal action against the Facebook page for broadcasting the interview and sought necessary proceedings as per law.
Police officials have not yet issued any official statement regarding the complaint or further action in the matter.
