New Delhi — Ahead of the upcoming 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, India and Russia are poised to sign a slew of new agreements when Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in the country. According to a senior official at the Ministry of External Affairs, the deals will cover wide-ranging areas: trade, economy, healthcare, education, culture, and media.
Both countries aim to deepen cooperation in sectors that have already borne fruit — defence, energy, and space. With Russia’s growing demand for manpower, the two sides are also expected to formalise a labour-mobility pact designed to protect Indian workers and facilitate skilled migration.
At a media briefing organized by the Russian news agency Sputnik, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made it clear that defence hardware such as the S-400 missile system and the Su-57 fighter jet are high on the agenda.
Trade between India and Russia has already reached 63 billion USD, and both sides expressed confidence that the figure could hit 100 billion USD by 2030. During the visit, there will also be discussions around oil trade — ensuring that Russia can export oil and India can buy under favourable conditions — even amid external pressures such as US tariffs.
As the summit approaches, the spotlight remains fixed on how this wave of agreements might reshape the bilateral relationship — not just in strategic sectors like defence and energy, but also in people-to-people ties through culture, education and labour cooperation.
