Agartala | December 5, 2025:

In a notable development for Indigenous-language cinema, the North East India Film and Distribution Company (NEIFDC) launched the trailer of KHANGKRAI, the first Bodo feature film to be professionally dubbed into Kokborok. The launch event took place at Aitorma, Agartala, at 3 PM, marking what many view as a breakthrough moment for regional film collaboration.

Directed by Sunswrang Khakhlary and produced by Dilip Kumar Boro, KHANGKRAI has been adapted into Kokborok as part of NEIFDC’s effort to strengthen cross-cultural storytelling and expand the regional film ecosystem. This marks the first instance of a commercial Bodo film being made available to Kokborok audiences, opening new ground for Northeast cinema.

Kokborok Voice Line-Up:

The dubbed version features several well-known Tiprasa artists including Da Shankar, Rumi Murasing, Manoj Debbarma, Aditya Debbarma, Ruma Debbarma, Kwlwngsmaiti Reang, Kaushik Murasing, Bina Debbarma, Santa Debbarma, Bir Chandra Debbarma, along with other voice contributors.

Why the Film Matters:

NEIFDC states that the project aims to elevate Indigenous-language cinema by improving content accessibility, encouraging cross-language collaborations, and building a sustainable creative environment for young filmmakers. The initiative also highlights economic potential in regional cinema and aims to motivate youth engagement in filmmaking and storytelling.

Industry watchers see this as more than just a dubbing attempt; it symbolizes growing cultural cooperation between Bodo and Tiprasa communities and a practical step toward a larger Northeast film industry where indigenous languages share resources, talent, and markets.

The film is expected to reach Kokborok-speaking audiences soon, with further announcements awaited regarding the release schedule.
