New Delhi, September 19: Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become mandatory from October 1, 2026, for domestic LPG consumers seeking refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy, according to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
The ministry said 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of consumers, had already completed the authentication as of September 19.
Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to repeat the process. Those who have not completed it will be able to book subsidized refills after completing authentication.
The authentication can be completed in several ways. Consumers can complete it during LPG delivery, at their LPG distributor’s showroom, or through the mobile applications of the respective oil marketing companies—IndianOil ONE for Indane, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas, and HP PAY for HP Gas.
The government said the measure is intended to ensure that subsidized LPG reaches genuine and eligible households while helping prevent diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial or industrial use and removing duplicate or ineligible connections.
Consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete BAA can still receive LPG. However, they will be supplied with LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy through 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability.
The government said the deadline for authentication had previously been extended several times, with the final deadline set at September 14, 2026.
Consumers who have not yet completed authentication have been urged to do so before October 1. For assistance with LPG services, the ministry has provided the toll-free helpline 1800 2333 555.
