Agartala, June 19: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has approved the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur in Gomati district, allowing the institution to admit 60 students to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course from the 2026–27 academic session.
According to an acceptance letter issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) under NCISM on June 18, the approval was granted following an application submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Tripura Government.
The proposed college will be located at Tepania, Udaipur, and has been permitted to start the BAMS programme with an annual intake capacity of 60 seats under the provisions of the NCISM Act, 2020 and related regulations.
The approval comes after the state government sought permission to establish the Ayurvedic medical college and hospital as part of efforts to expand medical education and AYUSH healthcare infrastructure in the state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared the development on social media, stating that the institution is expected to strengthen Ayurvedic education and create opportunities for students interested in traditional systems of medicine.
With the latest approval, Tripura is set to add its first government Ayurvedic medical college, subject to the completion of other regulatory and administrative requirements before the commencement of admissions in the 2026–27 academic session.
