The Government of Tripura has announced that all Saturdays of every month will now be observed as government holidays. The decision was issued through a notification by the General Administration (AR) Department on Sunday.
According to the notification, the new order supersedes the earlier notification dated June 23, 2017. The state government stated that the move has been taken in line with the appeal made by the Prime Minister of India as an austerity measure aimed at reducing government expenditure.
The government has also revised office timings for state government offices. The new office hours will be from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM instead of the existing timing of 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. However, the official lunch break will remain unchanged from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM.
The notification further mentioned that these measures are expected to reduce electricity and fuel consumption in government offices through strict energy-saving practices.
