Agartala, October 7, 2026: TIPRA Motha founder Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya has announced that he is stepping away from active politics, saying he will no longer hold political office or participate in day-to-day political activities.
In a two-page “Letter to the People of Tripura” dated October 6, Bubagra Pradyot said the decision was “clear and final” and was not a temporary withdrawal or a decision taken in anger.
He said years of public life, political negotiations and the struggle for the Tiprasa Accord had taken a toll on his health, family life and peace of mind. He said he now wants to spend more time with his family, focus on his health and recover parts of his life that he had neglected over the years.
However, Bubagra Pradyot made it clear that stepping away from active politics does not mean stepping away from Tripura or its people. He said he would remain connected to the people and continue to stand for the dignity, rights and future of Tripura’s indigenous communities.
Reflecting on his political journey, he highlighted the implementation of the Bru settlement and the Tiprasa Accord. He said the Tiprasa Accord is bigger than any individual, political party or political position and urged that its commitments be fulfilled within the stipulated timeframe.
Bubagra Pradyot also recalled the growth of TIPRA Motha, stating that the movement now has 3,428 elected Village Council leaders, 24 MDCs and 13 MLAs.
In his concluding remarks, Bubagra Pradyot expressed gratitude to the people of Tripura and said that despite the challenges, disappointments and sacrifices of his political journey, he has never stopped believing in Tripura.
