Agartala, August 10, 2026: Tripura is taking a major step towards expanding the international market for its organic agricultural products with an International Organic Buyer-Seller Meet held in Agartala on Monday.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated the event, which brought together international buyers and representatives of Tripura’s farmers, producers and agricultural organisations. According to the minister, 51 international buyers from countries including Germany, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea and Egypt participated in the meet.
A range of Tripura’s agricultural products—including Queen Pineapple, Sabri banana, jackfruit, aromatic lemon, pumpkin, ginger, turmeric and honey—were showcased before potential buyers.
The minister said organic cultivation in Tripura has expanded from around 2,000 hectares to 26,000 hectares, with nearly 47,000 farmers currently involved in organic farming.
A key highlight of the event was the export of one metric tonne of Tripura honey to an overseas market, described as an important milestone for the state's organic agricultural sector.
The event also aims to connect organised farmer groups directly with buyers and create better market opportunities for Tripura’s producers. Reports indicate that agricultural orders have already been placed, including an order of around 1,000 metric tonnes for an outside-state market.
The development comes as Tripura continues to push its agricultural products towards national and international markets, including through the ₹236-crore Mission Queen Pineapple, launched earlier this year to strengthen the state's pineapple value chain and export potential.
