Agartala, July 20: The Tripura State Cabinet has expressed profound grief over the untimely demise of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar (IPS). During the Cabinet meeting held on Monday, ministers observed a two-minute silence in his memory and paid tribute to his distinguished career in public service.

A 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, Dhankar joined service in the state in 1995 and served in several key positions before becoming DGP. The Cabinet remembered him for his dedication, integrity, professionalism, and leadership throughout his career.

The Cabinet also highlighted his contributions at both national and international levels, including his service with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and assignments with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Distinguished Police Medal for his exemplary service.

Describing his passing as an irreparable loss, the Cabinet extended heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of his soul.

As a mark of respect, the Tripura Government has declared a one-day State Mourning on July 21, 2026. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on government buildings where it is regularly hoisted, and no official entertainment programmes will be held on the day.
