The Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI) on Friday inaugurated its four-day Masterclass on Documentary Filmmaking at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, bringing together aspiring filmmakers, students and film enthusiasts from across Tripura.
The first day featured an introductory session by Aditya Modak, a research scholar from Jadavpur University. During his lecture, Modak provided participants with an overview of the history and evolution of documentary cinema, tracing its development from early global documentary movements to the growth of documentary filmmaking in India and the Northeast region.
The session explored major milestones in world documentary history, the emergence of documentary traditions in India, and the unique storytelling practices and cinematic voices that have emerged from Northeast India over the years.
From July 4 onwards, the masterclass sessions will be conducted by acclaimed documentary filmmaker and editor Tamal Chakraborty, an alumnus of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). He is expected to guide participants through the practical and creative aspects of documentary filmmaking, including research, storytelling, visual language, production and editing techniques.
The workshop, scheduled from July 3 to July 6, 2026, is being held daily from 11 AM to 6 PM and is open to film enthusiasts from across the state.
