Agartala, June 21: Veteran CPI(M) leader and former MLA from Chawmanu constituency, Nirajoy Tripura, passed away late Saturday night at around 11:26 pm. He was 99.
Nirajoy Tripura represented the Chawmanu Assembly constituency and served as a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2018. A long-time member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), he had been associated with the Left movement since the 1960s and was regarded as one of the senior-most tribal leaders in the state.
Known for his grassroots political work and commitment to tribal welfare, he remained active in public life for decades. In the 2013 Assembly elections, he was among the oldest candidates in the fray.
His demise has been mourned by political leaders and well-wishers across party lines. Further details regarding his last rites are awaited.
