Agartala: Jan 06. With the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections expected in the coming months, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its political and organizational activity in the state. As part of this push, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey on Tuesday reviewed development projects and held key political and administrative meetings in Gomati district.
Uikey began the day by offering prayers at the Matarbari temple in Udaipur, seeking peace, prosperity and overall development of Tripura. He later attended a meeting at the Gomati district circuit house with BJP leaders from the district and state units of the Janajati Morcha, where discussions centred on tribal welfare, strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and addressing key social concerns.
The Union Minister subsequently chaired an administrative review meeting with district officials, taking stock of ongoing development works, implementation of central government schemes and future planning in Gomati district. He directed officials to ensure timely execution of projects and maintain transparency in delivering public welfare programmes.
Meanwhile, Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma paid a courtesy visit to Uikey during his stay in the state. The two leaders discussed issues related to the social and economic empowerment of tribal communities, reviewed the status of existing welfare schemes and explored the need for more inclusive initiatives.
Speaking after the meeting, Debbarma said the Centre and the state must work in close coordination to ensure tribal communities receive the full benefits of constitutional provisions and welfare schemes. He added that the exchange of views would help strengthen cooperation and positively influence future policy decisions aimed at tribal development.
The visit comes at a politically significant time, with the BJP gearing up for a tough contest in the TTAADC elections, where the strongest regional party Tipra Motha led by its Founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma is expected to be its main challenger.
