Agartala: Jan 07. To remove confusion over jurisdiction following the creation of the Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat, the Sepahijala district administration has ordered a joint field-level demarcation to clearly define boundaries between Urban Local Body areas and TTAADC villages.

The new Nagar Panchayat was created by including areas of three Gram Panchayats-- Bishramganj, Chesrimai and Barjala with the delimitation of boundaries finalised on December 31, 2025. As these Gram Panchayats share boundaries with several ADC villages, concerns were raised regarding possible overlap and ambiguity over the actual extent of the ULB.

To address the issue and ensure administrative clarity, the district administration, with the approval of the District Magistrate and Collector, Sepahijala, constituted a joint demarcation team to carry out on-site verification and resolve the matter. The exercise will be supervised and led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bishalgarh.

The joint demarcation team includes the Deputy Collector and Magistrate, Bishalgarh; Deputy Collector and Magistrate, Bishramganj; Revenue Inspectors of Bishramganj and Bishalgarh; Tehsildar, Amtali; Tehsildar, Bishalgarh T.K.; Ashim Choudhury, In-Charge of Bishramganj Gram Panchayat; Mithu Debnath, In-Charge of Amtali Gram Panchayat; Niloy Debnath, In-Charge of Chesrimai Gram Panchayat; a representative of the Executive Officer, Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat nominated by the SDM Bishalgarh on behalf of the Urban Development Department; and a representative of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to be nominated by the Chief Executive Officer, TTAADC.

Representatives from erstwhile local bodies have also been included in the exercise, namely Sudhangshu Das Baisban, former Pradhan and present member of the erstwhile Bishramganj Gram Panchayat, Ruhel Alom, former member and social worker, and from Amtali Village Committee, social workers Goutam Buddha Debbarma and Rajib Debbarma. Officials said the objective of the joint demarcation is to clearly specify the exact boundaries of TTAADC areas, prevent inadvertent inclusion of ADC villages within urban limits, and avoid future administrative or legal disputes.

The order was issued and digitally signed by Binki Saha, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bishalgarh.
