Agartala, Jan 09: With the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approaching, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) received a significant boost on Thursday as several prominent leaders from the 21-Maharani–Chelagang constituency formally joined the party.
The leaders joined TMP during a joining-cum-press meet held at Chandra Mahal here.
Among the notable entrants were defeated independent candidate Purendra Reang, former TPF candidate Sunanta Jamatia, Nabi Ranjan Jamatia (Mandal Organising Secretary, BJYPM), Dayal Jamatia (Mandal Advisory Member), and Mandal members Deba Nando Jamatia, Jagat Lal Jamatia, Mukta Manik Jamatia, Subi Chandra Jamatia, Kumari Jamatia, and Barmati Kanya Jamatia.
Addressing the media, TMP spokesperson Rajeshwar Debbarma claimed that the ruling BJP is steadily losing grassroots support as the ADC elections draw nearer. He said TMP continues to strengthen its organisational base through regular joining programmes across multiple constituencies.
Taking a swipe at Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma’s claim that the BJP would win “30 out of 28 seats” in the Council, Rajeshwar Debbarma said such remarks reflect political anxiety and suggested that basic calculations were faltering under pressure.
He further stated that under the leadership of the Maharaja, TMP is receiving overwhelming public support, including from constituencies where the party had not secured victories earlier, indicating a strong possibility of a repeat mandate in the upcoming elections.
The press meet-cum-joining programme was attended by Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, former Tribal Welfare Department Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, YTF General Secretary James Debbarma, among others.
The newly inducted leaders alleged that the BJP’s slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” has failed to materialise on the ground. They asserted that TMP is the only party genuinely working to safeguard the future of the Tiprasa people and expressed confidence in the party’s leadership to fulfil the people’s mandate.
