New Delhi, June 16, 2025: The Government of India has officially announced that the next Census of India will be conducted in March 2027. This will be the country’s 16th national census and the 8th since Independence.
According to the Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the census reference date will be 00:00 hours on March 1, 2027, for most parts of the country.
Special Schedule for Snow-Bound Areas: For snow-bound regions in the Union Territory of Ladakh and certain parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the reference date will be October 1, 2026.
