AGARTALA, September 1, 2026: In a significant achievement for Tripura's growing independent film industry, KHAANI, a Kokborok film presented by 18 Hills Films, has been officially selected for the 1st International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026.
The filmmakers announced that KHAANI will be part of the inaugural edition of the International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir, scheduled to be held from September 7 to September 10, 2026.
According to the official IFFJK website, the festival is being organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, under the theme “Rang-e-Cinema.” The festival aims to promote artistic excellence, cinematic innovation and cultural exchange while bringing together filmmakers and audiences from different parts of India and the world.
The festival programme includes international competition, curated showcases and dedicated sections for feature films, documentaries, short films and regional cinema, including J&K Select and Bharat Panorama.
KHAANI, written and directed by Ploto, features a cast including Ruhi Debbarma, Madhusudan Debbarma, Pohar Jamatia, Ajoy Tripura and Hemchandra Tripura, among others.
The selection marks the third international festival selection for the film, according to the announcement made by 18 Hills Films.
The achievement is another important moment for Tripura's emerging cinema, as independent filmmakers from the state continue to gain recognition and find platforms beyond the region.
The team behind the film expressed gratitude to the cast, crew and producers who supported the vision and journey of KHAANI.
