Agartala, June 8: In a major step aimed at improving agricultural extension services, the Tripura Government has revived the Kisan Helpline Centre (KHC) at the State Horticulture Research Centre in Nagicherra after a gap of nearly seven years. The facility was formally launched by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath to provide farmers with expert guidance, grievance redressal and technology-based support services.

According to the Agriculture Department, the centre will serve as a dedicated platform where farmers can directly interact with agricultural experts and receive advice on crop management, soil health, pest control, horticulture, animal husbandry and other farming-related issues. The helpline will also facilitate the registration and resolution of complaints related to government schemes and agricultural services.

Officials said the centre has been equipped with modern call management and analytics systems to ensure faster response and efficient handling of farmers’ queries. The initiative is expected to bridge the gap between farmers and agricultural experts, enabling timely dissemination of information and solutions to field-level challenges.

Tripura has a long association with the Kisan Call Centre system. Agartala became home to the Northeast's first Kisan Call Centre in 2015, offering advisory services in multiple regional languages. However, the service later became inactive. With the revival of the helpline centre, the state government aims to strengthen agricultural support services and improve accessibility for farmers across Tripura.

The Agriculture Minister said the technology-driven initiative would help ensure quicker, more effective and farmer-friendly services, ultimately contributing to agricultural development and the welfare of farming communities in the state.
