New Delhi, July 16 (BOROKNOW.COM): A 24-member delegation comprising young political leaders from 14 political parties of Sri Lanka has arrived in India for a two-week visit aimed at strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

The delegation met with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in the national capital to kickstart their programme. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Foreign Secretary underscored the vital role of the delegation in deepening the India-Sri Lanka partnership and recognised them as important stakeholders in shaping its future roadmap.

This visit comes soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “very productive” visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, which reinforced the island nation’s significance in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and ‘MAHASAGAR’ vision. During that visit — PM Modi’s fourth since 2015 — he held extensive discussions with Sri Lankan President Dissanayake to enhance bilateral ties grounded in shared history and robust people-to-people connections.

The leaders undertook a comprehensive review of cooperation in connectivity, development projects, economic ties, defence relations, and fishermen’s issues. They virtually inaugurated key projects, including 5,000 solar rooftop units at religious sites across Sri Lanka, a modern warehousing facility at Dambulla, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the 120 MW Sampur Solar Power Project — a step towards joint sustainable energy development.

India reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and stability, demonstrating concrete progress in bilateral collaboration.
